Forgiven warrior- WV Wellness Festival coming Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The public is encouraged to attend the free WV Wellness Festival presented by the nonprofit Forgiven Warrior and the Mylan Park Aquatic Center & Track Complex July 22 at Mylan Park starting at 1:30 p.m. The event includes 70 organizations dedicated to the mental, physical and spiritural health and wellness of the community.

Forgiven Warrior founder, Sarah Giosi said this a “fun” version of health in the past she would attend that were maybe not so lively. On WAJR’s “Talk of the Town,” Giosi said it’s important to add fun to the equation as we adjust in the post-pandemic world.

“Get the same players, bring together this idea of partnering with Mylan Park and put some real life into it- make it really fun,” Giosi said.

During the festival swimming is free in the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, interactive health and wellness exhibits, free resources, giveaways and four live bands providing entertainment. The WV Wellness Festival Fitness Competition will feature a $500 prive to the overall male and female winners.

“There’s a fitness competition and a 5k taking place and that’s going to be intermingled, so while you’re there you’ll be able to see some of that going on,” Giosi said.

Professionals from Mon Health will offer information and diagnostic tests from their exclusive location on the festival grounds. Mon Health is also presenting a free family friendly movie on the outdoor big screen.

“Mon Health has come on board, they’re going to have a entire “Mon Health Corner” and they are going to have professionals out there doing diagnostics,” Giosi said. “They’re also sponsoring our movie at 7 p.m.”

Giosi wants an event that is moving with lots of things to engage the public. The grounds will be filled with activities for all ages along with a central location for special presentations to the community.

“We’ve got an “event tent,” so throughout the day every 30 minutes there’s going to be some sort of lecture, seminar or mini class,” Giosi said.

Members of the first responder community will also be in attendance to meet with families and children and provide equipment tours.

“We’ll have the 911 Mobile Command Center for the kids to tour and we’ll have one of the canines,” Giosi said.

Forgiven Warrior and the Mylan Park Aquatic Center & Track Complex will split proceeds from the event.
