Friendship Room operates from Willey St., Health Right stays on Spruce St.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A social services program in Morgantown is operating under a new umbrella and new location still providing the same types of programs residents have utilized for 50 years or more.

The Friendship Room is now part of Milan Puskar Health Right.

“The Friendship Room has always had its own location. We’re not changing that. We specifically moved to the new site because it’s handicapped accessible,” explained Laura Jones, Executive Director of Health Right.

The drop in center will not share space with other resources at 304 Willey St.

“The goal of The Friendship Room is to help people develop relationships with other people in the community and work toward recovery,” Jones added.

It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The programming involves group meetings for various things anywhere from art to music therapy to recovery groups,” Jones listed. “The folks that attend the program have input in pretty much every aspect of what happens there.”

According to Jones, the mental health drop in center is an essential resource.

“Within the first two months of the re-opening of The Friendship Room under Health Right’s umbrella, we’ve had 280 people register to attend our program. We average about 40 people dropping in every day.”

Milan Puskar Health Right will continue to operate from 341 Spruce Street.
