House condemned following early morning fire

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A home on Sheets Alley suffered considerable heat and smoke damage from a basement fire early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release issued by the Morgantown Fire Department, crews responded to 223 Sheets Alley after heavy smoke was seen coming from the structure.

Firefighters entered the house and found a working fire in the basement. A search of the structure was conducted and the fire extinguished.

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire and nobody was injured in the blaze.

The home was condemned by the city’s building codes division due to the extent of the damage.

Morgantown Police and Mon EMS assisted firefighters during the incident, which is being investigated by the Morgantown Fire Marshal’s office.
