Kingwood couple charged with neglect after toddler found walking alone

KINGWOOD, W.Va.– A three-year-old child walking on a Preston County road has resulted in neglect charges for a Kingwood couple.

Troopers from the West Virginia State Police found the child June 7 walking alone along an unidentified road.

After determining where the child lived, the trooper took the child to the home, where the parents were cleaning in a back room. Matthew Johnson, 26, and Madison Nedrow, 24, told the trooper the child must have left the home from the front door while they were in the back.

The trooper said the smell of feces was very strong as he spoke to the couple at the rear of the home and asked to come in.

The trooper said there were feces all over the kitchen floor, and they did not appear to be fresh. There was also trash and dirty dishes all over the countertop and floor.

Johnson and Nedrow have been charged with child neglect, creating a risk of injury.

Both are being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
