Kingwood resident arrested after discharging firearm

KINGWOOD, W.Va. A Kingwood resident has been charged after firing shots through his bathroom window because he thought someone was in his backyard.

On Sunday, deputies with the Preston County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance report at a home on Morgan Street in Kingwood.

Matthew Sparenberg, 36, told the deputies he fired a shot through the window before calling 911 to report a problem.

Sparenberg has been charged with wanton endangerment. State law allows lethal force to be used, but only if the person believes deadly force is necessary.

Sparenberg is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
