Lane closures begin with Easton Hill road project

MORGANTOWN, W.V.a. – There will be several road restrictions starting Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on Point Marion Road and Cheat Road.

According to the West Virginia Department of Transportation, US 119 & WV 857 will be reduced to one lane Northbound and one lane Southbound on either side of the Easton Hill intersection.

Motorists traveling from I-68, going toward Point Marion, will only be able to use the outside lane. Likewise, traveling from Point Marion to I-68, the outside lane will be available, said Don Williams, Division of Highways District 4 engineer.

“US 119 and 857 from Easton Hill, north and south, will become one lane north and one lane south,” said Williams, “To make this work, we are taking the signals out that are there now. And if anybody has driven there now, even this morning, there will be a new signal head there.”

The purpose for the lane closures is to progress with the Airport Road-Easton Elementary Upgrade Project

The left lanes from Cheat Road going up Easton Hill will be eliminated. Motorists will have to wait for an opening in the southbound traffic to make the left to connect to Mileground Rd.

“This is quite an extensive project for the next two months roughly,” said Williams. “A lot of this congestion not going to go away. We are asking folks that to look for alternate routes, stay away from this area,” warned Williams.

Williams said there may be some changes as the project progresses.

“We’re going to work as diligent as we can to insure that we maximize what we have here,” said Williams. “We ask the public to be patient with us as we work on this together.”

Easton Hill is set to shut down for two weeks in July. Williams said to plan ahead and allow additional time for commutes.

The completion date is set for October 27, 2017. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may change the project’s schedule.
