Large quantity of meth confiscated in Barbour County traffic stop

BELINGTON, W.Va. An Elkins woman has been arrested with a large quantity of methamphetamine following a routine traffic stop Sunday.

Deputies from the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department stopped a car driven by Rachel Gassnola, 32, after she allegedly crossed the centerline twice on Route 250.

When police made contact with Gassnola and asked if there was anything illegal in the car, Gassnola told deputies “there shouldn’t be” and if there was, “someone else put it there out of spite.”

After a canine officer gave a positive indication to narcotics deputies, they performed a probable cause search.

During the search, deputies recovered nearly 53 grams of methamphetamine and $200 in cash.

Gassnola has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

She is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
