Local attorney Metz running for 7th Ward council seat

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As of Tuesday morning, four of seven Morgantown City Council seats are now contested.

According to Communications Director Andrew Stacy, the city received candidate paperwork from Aaron Metz, who will challenge incumbent Barry Wendell to be the 7th Ward representative.

In the 1st Ward, incumbent Rachel Fetty will run against longtime councilor Ron Bane. Fetty defeated Bane, an eight-term incumbent, 1,652 to 915 to win the seat in 2017.

In the 2nd Ward, Barbara Parsons, who just ended an 18-year run on the Monongalia County Board of Education, will take on Mayor Bill Kawecki.

Mark Brazaitis will not seek re-election to his 6th Ward seat. Jay Redmond, who spent one term on council before losing to Brazaitis in 2017, will face Dave Harshbarger for the open spot.

Ryan Wallace (3rd Ward), Jenny Selin (4th Ward) and Ron Dulaney (5th Ward) remain unopposed.

Candidate filings postmarked no later than Feb. 11 can still be accepted.
