Man sentenced for murder of Mon County woman

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sentencing has been handed down for a Monongalia County man who fatally shot a woman during a domestic incident in 2020.

Travis Anderson, 35, was sentenced to 30 years in prison yesterday for second-degree murder in the death of Jane Sharak, 42.

The two were involved in a domestic altercation on June 3, 2020 on Pedlar Run Road in Core. Anderson told police that the gun discharged during the disagreement. Sharak was shot in the head. First responders were able to stabilize her and transport her to Ruby Memorial Hospital but Sharak died a day later.

Anderson was initially charged with malicious assault but charges were upgraded following Sharak’s death.
