Mannington Middle School assistant coach charged with battery

MANNINGTON, W.Va. A Mannington Middle School football coach indefinitely suspended for a physical altercation with a player on an opposing team has now been charged with two counts of battery.

Vladimir Jean-Phileppe, 38, of Mannington, is accused of striking a member of the Washington Irving Middle School football team in the head during the post-game line-up when players and coaches shake hands on Oct. 12.

Officials said they also have video evidence of the incident.

The Marion County Board of Education voted unanimously to indefinitely suspend Jean-Phileppe.

Jean-Phileppe faces two counts of misdemeanor battery.
