Marion Co. woman arrested on felony child abuse charge

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County Crimes Against Children Unit investigation resulted in felony abuse charges.

Kimberly Simpson, 22, was arrested Thursday accused of felony child abuse resulting in injury.

According to West Virginia State Police Sergeant Adam Scott, Simpson admitted to smacking a 6-year-old girl with a hair brush over Memorial Day weekend.

The girl, whose father dates Simpson, returned to her mother’s where she revealed severe bruising on her back side.

During an interview, Sgt. Scott indicated Simpson confessed she had hit the victim twice with a brush because she was frustrated. She stated the victim had mud on her shoes and was back talking.

Simpson was arraigned in Marion County Magistrate Court and placed on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
