Missing Hampshire County man found at the scene of fatal car accident

ROMNEY, W.Va. A missing West Virginia man was found dead at the scene of a vehicle accident near Romney on Monday afternoon.

Jason Shingleton, 26, of Purgitsville, was reported missing around 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

Shingleton was last seen in Romney around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 18, and soon after deputies from the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, and some concerned citizens began searching.

Around 12:20 p.m. on Monday, Shingleton and his car were located in a deep creek bed along U.S. Route 50 near the intersection of Fox Hollow Road by a citizen.

Investigators believe Shingleton was westbound, went off the right side of the road, and crashed into the creek bank. Shingleton was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was deceased when the first responders got to him.

No foul play is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing.
