Missing Preston County man found safe, recovering

MASONTOWN, W.Va. – Officials in Preston County report that Tyler Smith, 42, has been located and is recovering.

Smith was found Thursday along the Cheat River around 6 p.m.

Masontown Water Rescue, Bruceton-Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Maryland State Police were able to rescue Smith and transport him to J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Smith went missing on July 9. He was last seen walking along Bull Run Road toward the Masontown area.

Multiple agencies participated in the search, including the West Virginia State Police, the Maryland State Police, the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department, and the Mountaineer Area Rescue Group.
