Mon County deputies bust beer drinking burglar

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. A Virginia man faces a single burglary charge after police allege he let himself in a Ramp Hollow Road home and was caught in the closet drinking beer.

Deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department responded to the home around 5 a.m. Saturday, where the female occupant told police someone had broken a window in the home the night before, and neighbors reported seeing Jeffrey Harder, 56, of Lynchburg, Va., leave via the front door.

Deputies found blood near the front door, and the victim told police that a bag of tobacco was taken and beer was left in her refrigerator.

Later, police found Harder in another home, hiding in a closet and drinking beer. Harder was found in the closet with a bag of tobacco and the same brand of beer left in the woman’s refrigerator.

Harder is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
