Mon. County passes 2017-2018 budget

MORGANTOWN, W.V.a — Monongalia County Board of Education passed the total operational budget for the fiscal year of 2017-2018.

The total operating budget would be $121,515,840. Superintendient Dr. Frank Devono said this could change because the state budget has not been passed yet.

“Let me just give you one caution also, the state legislature still has not approved a budget,” said Devono. “This is on a  tentative basis, so hopefully would not have to make any modifications.”

Without the state budget in place, Devono said the budget for Monongalia County would have to change.

For now, the total budget would cover employee salaries, employee benefits and fixed costs, professional and technical services, school supplies and equipment. Employee salaries are increasing by $1,000 from last year.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Monongalia BOE also renewed Devono’s contact for the coming fiscal year. Devono will be receiving the same salary as the prior year ($183,000) plus $1,000.
