Mon County schools proud of Balanced Scorecard results

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Educators statewide grimaced at the most recent Balance Scorecard grades West Virginia schools. The report says more than 38 percent of schools did not meet the minimum standard for attendance, up from 30.5 percent last year.

The report says statewide 32 school districts improved English/Language Arts performance and 34 districts improved in Math performance.

Superintendent in Monongalia County Dr. Eddie Campbell says local schools rank at or near the top in almost every category.

Campbell said,”We see a lot of real postive things here. When you match us up with the rest of the state we are either at the top or number two in just about every category you look at, from vantage point we’re doing very well.”

Monongalia County Schools had an almost 95 percent attendance rate and more than 90-percent of seniors graduated.

Director of Assessment, Accountability and Counseling, Courtney Whitehead said,”Mon County did have the highest score in the attendance indicator in the state of West Virginia. That indicator is specifically looking at the percentage of students who are physically in their seats, in school for at least 90 percent of the instructional days.”

The Monongalia County Balanced Scorecard also found local students led the state in English/Language Arts proficency and second Math proficency.
