Mon Power crews and equipment at the ready, damage assessments continue

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Crews from Mon Power are assessing damage to the electrical system and are able to work in some areas, according to spokesperson Hannah Catlett.

“Mon Power has crews out working the several outages in the area,” Catlett said. “It looks like between West Virginia and Maryland have about 15,000 customers out.”

The hardest hit West Virginia counties are reportedly Monongalia, Mineral, Harrison and Webster. Each county reported more than 1,000 without power at some point Friday morning.

Catlett said they have equipment and personnel available to begin restoration when possible. Additionally, private contractors will be used in the Morgantown area to expedite restoration.

“We’re in good shape with employees showing up to work this storm,” Catlett said. “Even through the holiday weekend Mon Power has about 100 lineman of it’s own out working right now.”

As of noon Friday, Catlett said damage assessments are ongoing as wind gusts above 40-miles per hour continue.

“We don’t necessarily have all the estimated times of restoration yet,” Catlett said. “We have people in the call center and we’re taking calls, learning about all of the damage and trying to respond as quickly as we can.”
