Monongalia County man charged with arson in trailer fire

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Monongalia County man has officially been charged with arson, the State Fire Marshal’s Office announced Wednesday.

Joe Allen Hornsby, 29, of Morgantown, is accused of setting fire to his own trailer stemming from a domestic incident last week. He is charged with one count of first degree arson.

Investigators said Hornsby set a small fire in the bathroom of the mobile home at Saint Claire’s Village Mobile Home Park Jan. 10. Hornsby and his husband had been arguing most of the evening. He then said he noticed smoke in the hallway while Hornsby was pretending to sleep in the bathroom. Hornsby’s husband, Jeremy Mays, said he also noticed a small fire set in the living room area from earlier that same week.

Hornsby has since been entered into a mental health facility.
