Monongalia County sheriff would serve as deputy after his term

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Sheriff Al Kisner is not ready for retirement when his second term as sheriff concludes at the end of the year. Kisner wants to continue working in local law enforcement, possibly as the Chief Deputy of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.

“I’ve been asked by Perry Palmer to stay on in the role for a period of time that I chose to do. I’m think very seriously about doing that and probably will if he is elected,” Kisner stated during a guest appearance Tuesday morning on Morgantown A.M. “You don’t spend 38 years somewhere and just walk out the door one day.”

Kisner was first elected sheriff in 2008 and has been working in law enforcement for nearly four decades and does not feel it is the right time to walk away from the department.

“If I were at an age that I thought I couldn’t do this job any more, that I had nothing to offer any longer then I could go home and say ‘that’s ok.'”

Current Chief Deputy Perry Palmer is running for the Democratic nomination for sheriff in the 2016 primary. He is being opposed by fellow democrat and former Monongalia County Deputy John Kisner.

Rick Panico and Gary Drvar are contending for the Republican nomination.

West Virginia’s primary election is May 10th. April 19th is the final day to register to vote in the primary election.
