More than 4,000 cast ballots in early voting in Mon County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — During the 10-day early voting period Monongalia County voters cast 4,343 ballots and across the state, 68,391 ballots ahead of Tuesday’s Primary Election.

The 4,343 voters represents 6.5 percent of the 66,736 total registered voters in Monongalia County. According to data from the Monogalia County Clerk’s Office, the overwhelming majority of those voters were ages 55 and older. Of the voters who participated in early voting in Monongalia County, 70 percent were ages 55 and up.

Overall voter turnout in Monongalia County will likely be low with few contested local races on the primary ballots. During the most recent mid-term primary election voter turnout in Monongalia County was just uner 14 percent.
