Morgantown celebrates 242 years of America

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown brought the bang July 4th with an Independence Day parade followed by a firework show.

Residents of Morgantown and surrounding areas gathered in their red, white and blue to end their day of festivities downtown and show their pride for America.

“We went to the parade and saw the community get together. It was so fantastic,” said Fallon Morella, 22, of Morgantown.

The parade began at 6:30 p.m. followed by fireworks that began at dusk, around 9:30 p.m.

The fireworks were released at Mountaineer Middle School on Price Street but could be seen from a lot of places downtown, such as High Street.

Families celebrated the holiday in other ways too with cookouts and family traditions. For some, it was their first Fourth of July spent in Morgantown.

“My family came down, her family came down. I played golf with our dads in the morning and the girls all kind of did a little shopping thing. Then after that, we all got together and had a little cookout, swimming, that kind of thing,” said Wyatt Weston, 21.

The Morgantown fireworks ended the day’s festivities for many people that celebrated the country’s independence.
