Morgantown council approves pay raises

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — City employees in Morgantown are in line for a pay raise.  City Council approved the first reading of a two-percent pay increase for city workers during its meeting Tuesday night.

Council also approved a two-percent jump in longevity pay, shift differential, hazardous duty pay and special supervision differential.

Councilman Wes Nugent was the lone dissenting vote for pay raise. Nugent stated he appreciated the employees hard work, but wanted to find a way to supplement their pay that will not be added to the city’s base expenditures and compounded each year.

The pay increase will go into effect on July 1, if it is approved at the second reading.
