Morgantown man faces federal drug charges

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – Derrick Morris has his first day in court following an indictment by a federal grand jury earlier this month. Court records say Morris was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine base and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Morris was arrested in November of 2018 after members of the Mon Metro Drug Task Force served a search warrant at his home on Dandelion Lane. During the warrant service police confiscated 21 grams of crack cocaine, a .22 caliber rifle and a .45 caliber pistol. Morris told police the drugs belonged to him.

If convicted Morris could face a 20 year prison sentence and a fine of up to $1 million for drug offense and up to 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine for the weapons violation.

The mon Metro Drug Task Force was assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
