Morgantown names new fire chief

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The next fire chief in the city of Morgantown will be Eugene Deem. Deem served as the interim chief following the retirement of Mark Caravasos in May 2021 after 34-years of service.

“I am honored to be the new Fire Chief of the Morgantown Fire Department,” said Deem. “I feel thankful to be able to serve the personnel of Morgantown. We will work hard to ensure that citizens and visitors are kept safe.”

Deem joined the Morgantown Fire Department in 1993 as a probationary firefighter. Since, he has served as a First Class Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Operations Captain. Prior to coming to the Morgantown Fire Department he worked in public service in Gilmer County. Deem has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Glenville State College.

“The department is in good hands with Eugene Deem,” said City Manager Kim Haws. “We are fortunate to have Eugene in this leadership position. He has an extensive background in fire management and civil service.”
