Mountaineer Area Council of Boy Scouts prepares for jamboree trip

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Members and leaders of the Mountaineer Area Council of Boy Scouts are planning two day trips to the 2019 World Boy Scout Jamboree.

Tuesday July, 30 the group will travel to the Summit Bechtel Reserve for the entire day. Wednesday, July 31 another group will travel to the jamboree site to meet the Rotary International President, Mark Daniel Maloney.

Scout Executive and CEO, Scott Hansen said he told his scouts, “Expect the unexpected, be ready to make new friends and lear about different cultures and different ways scouting is done around the world. A lot of our organizations around the world do similar types of activities and fellowship, but they all have their own spin with the culture their country.”

On July 30 four buses will depart early from Morgantown, Fairmont, Clarksburg and Weston and will return between 6 and 8 p.m.

The trip on Wednesday will be comprised of Rotary groups in the area and scout leaders to meet Rotary International president Mark Daniel Maloney.

The Mountaineer Area Council, BSA was founded in 1928, and serves Scouts and Scouters in the twelve counties of Barbour, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Upshur and within North Central West Virginia.

The council camp, Camp Mountaineer, is just south of Morgantown and includes over 1,000 acres with camp sites and cabins available for reservations year-round.
