Multiple Accidents Reported on I-79 Around Harrison County Due to Icy Conditions

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Slick driving condition caused accidents across the Mountain State Monday morning, especially along I-79 in Harrison County.

The first major wreck was reported at approximately 4:30 a.m. at mile marker 116 southbound when a pickup truck and car collided due to the ice, sending the car through the guardrail and off the side of the road.

Three individuals from the car were transported to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport to be treated for undisclosed injuries, while the driver of the truck refused any medical treatment.

HealthNet was called, but could not make a landing, due to the condition.

The southbound lane was shut down, then opened to one lane of traffic until crews could clear the scene nearly three and a half hours later.

Minutes, later wrecks were reported further south at mile markers 115, 112 and 106, then accident reports continued to come in through the morning from multiple location along the interstate from the Harrison/Lewis County line and into Marion County, according to WV 511.
