MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Weather forecasts suggest our period of mild, dry weather is about to be disrupted by the remnants of Troplical Storm Nicole. MetroNews Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Brian Thompson says the leading edge of the precipitation should arrive Friday allowing for decent conditions for the Morgantown Veterans Day Parade.
“It will be looking pretty dry, I think any rain will hold off until late tomorrow night after midnight,” Thompson said. “So, it should be fine during late afternoon and evening hours. It’s going to cloud up, but at this point it looks like it will be dry.”
Late Thursday night, Nicole is expected to collide with cold front dscending from the Great Lakes and rain will spread across the region. Thompson said the storm models do not give a clear indication of where the heaviest precipitation will be.
“There may be some breaks in the rain especially early in the day, but we do expect some pockets of heavy rain to come through during the afternoon and evening hours on Friday,” Thompson said.
The potential for heavy rainfall continues through Friday, but is expected to taper off as high school football action gets underway, according to Thompson.
“I think we’re looking at 2 to as much as 4-inches of rain, but I do think most of us will be on the lower end of that scale,” Thompson said. “Anywhere that has more persistent downpours could get 3 to 4-inches of rain through late tomorrow night into Friday.”
As the weekend progresses the cold front from the Great Lakes will become the dominant weather feature.
“Even colder air pushes in for Sunday. We’re going to see high temperatures close to 40-degrees, so it’s going to be some of the coldest air we’ve seen this season,” Thompson said.
