No bond for Fairmont murder suspect

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – An 18-year-old Fairmont man accused of a March murder has been denied bond.

Zeighshawn Meade allegedly shot and killed Clayton Peck, 22, of Frostburg, Maryland, after traveling to the Fairmont Hills Apartments on Cleveland Avenue to sell a quantity of marijuana.

Attorneys for Meade claim doorbell surveillance footage from the scene will confirm he was not there.

The prosecution countered that the discovery has not been completed and they are not aware of the video evidence.

Meade was tied to the scene by a tennis shoe he was known to wear, but the defense said the shoe was worn by one of his friends who exchanges shoes with him regularly.

The criminal complaint said there were others at the scene that the defense said fled to Ohio. Meade, on the other hand, fled to his home in Fairmont.

Prosecutors also told Judge Patrick Wilson Meade that his face tested positive for gunpowder residue.

Judge Wilson denied bond due to the lack of official evidence.

Leo Ginty, 18, of Frostburg, Maryland, traveled to Fairmont with Peck and was charged with possession with intent to distribute.

No trial date has been set.
