Nugent files to run as write-in candidate in Morgantown election

MORGANTOWN – Former Morgantown City Councilman Wes Nugent is joining the field of write-in candidates for Morgantown City Council’s third ward seat.

Nugent announced Tuesday morning on the Talk of the Town that he had filed his paperwork with the city clerk’s office to run as a write-in candidate for his old seat on council. Nugent was elected to council in 2011 and served three terms but lost his re-election bid in 2017 to current third ward councilman Ryan Wallace.

Wallace intended to run for re-election this year, but announced last month he was withdrawing from the race citing that his family will be moving to Toronto, Canada, where he plans to practice law.

However, names cannot be removed from the ballot within 84 days of the election and Wallace’s name will be the only name appearing on the ballot.

Two other write-in candidates have also filed to run third ward seat. Zack Cruze and Richard Dumas are also hoping to fill the now open seat in the third ward.
