Arrest made after suspect attempts to disarm officer

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – A suspect is in custody after police said he tried to take a weapon from an officer during an arrest.

Philippi police said the incident started as a domestic disturbance call on Macklin Street. The female victim told police that Isaac Clevenger, 25, threw a bowl at her head.

As police took Clevenger into custody, he pulled away and attempted to grab the officer’s service weapon. The officer stopped the attempt and wrestled Clevenger to the floor.

After a taser was deployed, Clevenger was taken into custody without incident.

Clevenger has been charged with domestic assault and attempting to disarm a police officer.
