One arrested, drugs, gun recovered at suspected Morgantown homeless encampment

MORGANTOWN, W,Va. – A woman reportedly from Star City has been arrested in a suspected Morgantown encampment on an outstanding warrant and in possession of drugs and weapons.

Officers from the Morgantown Police Department were on foot patrol on Elk Avenue when they located the suspected encampment in a wooded area.

The police said there were four people at the location trespassing on private property. One of the four, Loretha Williams, 28, police said had an active warrant for her arrest from Star City, which officers said had an active warrant through the WVU Police Department.

After Williams was placed in custody, police recovered a pistol, brass knuckles, and drug paraphernalia in her possession.

During processing, police found 30 bags containing a small amount of a substance that tested positive as an opioid, five other bags containing a small amount of methamphetamine, and a separate bag containing about seven grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine.

Williams has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. She is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
