Pennsylvania man charged after Morgantown pursuit

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A twenty-nine-year-old Pennsylvania man is behind bars following a chase with Mon County Sheriff’s Deputies Friday.

Police observed Daniel Spell, of Dilliner, Pennsylvania, driving southbound on University Avenue at 50-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone. Police made contact with Spell when he stopped at a traffic signal at the intersection of Campus Drive and Beechurst Avenue. Spell told police he would pull over, but accelerated away from them when the light turned green.

Spell continued to flee through the intersection of Patteson Drive and Mon Boulevard where he struck another car and flipped several times. When the vehicle came to a stop Spell and a passenger fled the scene on foot.

Spell and the passenger were captured with the help of a West Virginia State Police canine officer.

Spell has been charged with reckless indifference and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
