Police Chief: Stay off the roads

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Impending inclement weather has prompted a warning from the Morgantown Police Department, reminding residents and potential commuters to avoid roadways during expected snow fall from 2 p.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police Chief Ed Preston said, with a 100 percent chance of precipitation, it will be difficult to treat roadways if residents pack the roads and treat their evening commute like they normally would.

Actual projected area snow fall is expected to be less than one inch, but roads are already wet after several consecutive hours of heavy rain. It is possible that major roadways could be treacherous.

WVU has cancelled all afternoon classes after 2 p.m., but the University will remain open. WVU Libraries, Dining Services, the Student Rec Center, and PRT will all remain under normal operation.

Fairmont State University and Pierpont College close at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Schools in Monongalia, Marion, and Taylor counties were all dismissed early Wednesday.
