Police: Fairmont shooting was a targeted attack

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Court documents detailing a Thursday shooting in Fairmont show the attack was a targeted act and the suspect is a registered sex offender in Ohio.

On Thursday at 10:45 p.m., Kenyatta Ephraim, 29, of Elyria, Ohio, was in the passenger seat of a car on Maple Ave. in Fairmont when an accomplice driving the car pointed the victim out while he was standing outside his car. Ephriam allegedly fired five shots, three shots hit the car while the victim was getting things out of it.

One of the bullets ricocheted off a car in the area and went into a nearby home occupied by two adults and two children.

Documents report Ephriam and his accomplices searched for the victim before the 10:45 p.m. shooting.

Ephraim was the only person shot and charged, and there are other suspects in the case who have not been identified or charged.

Ephraim has been charged with attempted murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He is being held at North Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $750,012 bond.

Reports indicate Ephriam was convicted in Ohio of attempted gross sexual imposition with sexual motivation against a child in 2016.
