Police officers in Morgantown, Clarksburg benefit from federal grants announced by U.S. Senator Capito

WASHINGTON D.C.– Police departments in Morgantown and Clarksburg will benefit from grants recently announced by U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

The city of Clarksburg will use $15,650 in DOJ funding to purchase bikes and e-bikes to enable faster response in areas unsuitable for vehicles. The bicycle patrol unit has been active since 2016 and has been deployed in the downtown and Glen Elk areas, as well as at festivals and special events.

The city of Morgantown will purchase ballistic vests and body armor plates with a $14,536 grant from the DOJ.

“I am proud to deliver resources that aim to help West Virginians stay on the right path and away from crime so that they can pursue successful careers and support their families,” Senator Capito said. “I am also happy to see funding go to local police departments and sheriffs’ offices across our state that will help them acquire the tools they need to serve our communities and keep them safe.”
