Election results for Star City & Granville municipal elections

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. – The preliminary municipal election results are in for two Monongalia County communities.

In Granville, preliminary results from the Tuesday election show Mayor Patty Lewis earned 55 votes, running unopposed. Recorder Mary Beth Renner was also unopposed on the ballot and earned 54 votes.

The five members of the Granville City Council elected include four incumbents and one new member. New member Ron Clark received the most votes with 47, followed by incumbent Nicky Boyers with 41. Incumbent Patty Forbes received 39 votes, the third most among Granville City Council candidates, followed by incumbent David Bean, who received 35 votes. Bobbie Jo Wolfe earned the fifth most votes to take the last seat on Granville City Council, she received 22 votes.

If certified, the town of Star City will have a new mayor and three new members of town council.

Acting Mayor Sharon Doyle was formally elected to the position with 92 votes, the second-most of any candidate on the 2023 Star City ballot. Mayor Herman Reid, who stepped away from the position for health reasons, received one vote.

Recorder Steve Blinco was re-elected to his position, where he received 99 votes, the most out of any candidate on the ballot. Blinco ran unopposed in the election.

Council member incumbents Todd Gregg, Lynette DeChristopher, and Gregory Epps were re-elected to their positions. Gregg received the most votes among the re-elected incumbents with 71, DeChristopher received the second most with 70; and Epps received 57, the lowest among candidates. Andy Laskody and James Morris were both elected to council in the final two spots. Laskody received 72 votes, the most among candidates for council.

This is the last independent election for Star City. In November 88 percent of voters agreed to change the charter and align elections with the state.

The elections are scheduled to be canvassed on Wednesday, June 21, and certification is set for Friday, June 23.

The new terms begin on July 1.
