Preston Authorities Warn Cheat River Could Reach Major Flood Stage

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The Cheat River is expected to crest Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at 21.53 feet, according to the Preston County 911 Center.

Major flood stage starts at 22 feet. If Cheat River reaches 22 feet, it will shut down 72 South/River Road.

Residences are reminded to be cautious of the river. Low lying structures could be impacted.

Anyone with an emergency situation is reminded to call 911.

Eight counties are currently under a State of Emergency, including Monongalia, Marion, Harrison, Marshall, Ohio, Wetzel, Taylor, and Tucker.
