Preston Co. man charged with DUI in deadly crash

Dennis SpencerKINGWOOD, W.Va. — A Preston County man has been charged with DUI with death following the investigation into a crash last in Reedsville.

Dennis Spencer, 44, was allegedly drunk on April 18 when he came over a hill and rear-ended a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. The driver of that car died the next day because of injuries sustained in the crash.

Preston County Sheriff’s Department documented that Spencer had glassy, bloodshot eyes and his speech was slurred at the time of the incident. According to deputies, medical records later confirmed his BAC was .147.

Spencer, reportedly admitted to deputies that he had drank a 12-pack prior to the crash.

Additionally, Spencer did not have a valid driver’s license, had no insurance, the license plate was registered to another vehicle, and he had two prior DUI convictions in 2002 and 2009.

Spencer is being held at the Tygarts Valley Regional Jail.
