Scam warning for locals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It appears scammers are targeting Morgantown residents.

Police are reminding citizens to think twice before giving personal information over the phone.

The department has heard complaints of callers alleging to be from the IRS requesting payment for delinquent claims.

Morgantown police advise the IRS does not solicit payment over the phone.  City officers also do not place phone calls on behalf of the IRS.

Should you receive a phone call from someone presenting themselves as a Law Enforcement Officer collecting money on behalf of the Federal Government or demanding immediate payment do not provide any personal information to the caller. Hang up immediately.
