Schools closed in Monongalia County Wednesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Schools are closed in Monongalia County for Wednesday, January 3, the Board of Education announced Tuesday morning.

Due to exceptionally cold temperatures expected Wednesday morning, students in Monongalia County schools will be responsible for using their Chrome Books or accessing their assignments through their Google Accounts during the school’s “Arctic Academy Day.”

Wednesday would have been the first full school day for Monongalia County students since before the holiday break began Dec. 22.

The overnight low is expected at 6 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill value as low as -3 degrees. The high Wednesday is near 29, making it one of the warmest days in more than a week, but the wind chill values can still make temperatures feel below zero degrees Fahrenheit.

Faculty will still report to school Wednesday.
