64th Mountaineer Troy Clemons

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Four finalists will try to stake their claim as a West Virginia icon.

Timothy Eads, Trevor Kiess, Jesse Lackey, and Troy Salatino will engage in a cheer-off during Monday’s WVU-TCU men’s basketball game to determine who will be the 66th Mountaineer in WVU school history.

Kiess is the current alternate Mountaineer — briefly serving in the role after the suspension of Troy Clemons last October. Kiess became the 65th Mountaineer in school history for a matter of weeks before Clemons was reinstated following a DUI arrest.

Eads is a freshman strategic communications major from Buffalo, WV. Kiess is a senior accounting major with a minor in pre-law and legal studies from Elkins, WV. Lackey is a senior education and English major hailing from Salem, WV. Salatino is a secondary education and history major from Wheeling, WV.

The selection committee will announce their choice during the WVU men’s basketball game against Iowa State Feb. 24. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
