CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin announced that over $191 million has been secured for 151 West Virginia-based projects as part of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
In a press release from Sen. Machin’s office Monday, details were released on 13 Monongalia County-based projects that will receive approximately $13.68 million of the appropriations. The majority of the funds will be directed toward the West Virginia University Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system to refurbish four transit stations (approx. $6.4 million). The second-most appropriated funds for a single project in the county ($2 million) are directed to the City of Morgantown to help with the creation of affordable housing while removing blighted buildings.
Three separate projects also received appropriations of over $1 million. Those three were awarded to WVU’s High-Performance CPU Cluster for Research and Education ($1.5 million), their election microscopy-based equipment and research ($1.14 million), and the Chestnut Ridge Research Center ($1 million). WVU also received funding for three other projects that were separately valued at $500,000 or less.
The City of Morgantown received one other appropriation for Monongahela River trash removal, the Monongahela River Trails Conservancy received an appropriation, as did the West Virginia Land Trust, the Town of Star City, the Arnettsville Community Association, and the West Virginia Public Energy Authority. Each of those projects was valued at less than $400,000.
