Senator Stollings announces run for West Virginia Governor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Democrat West Virginia State Senator Ron Stollings has announced his candidacy for the office of Governor.

In the filing with the Secretary of State’s Office Stollings said,”Over my 34 years as a physician, I’ve witnessed the daily struggles of West Virginians. I’ve been on the front lines during the opioid crisis and I see how it is affecting our state.”

Dr. Stollings says he will form the Governor’s Office of Substance Abuse to coordinate the fight against drugs, ensure access to affordable healthcare, education, expand broadband and invest in infrastructure.

Stollings says he would also restore funding to health departments that was eliminated by the legislature two years ago.

Stollings and Stephen Smith are now the only names officially announced for the May 2020 primary.

The deadline to file for the May primary is January 2020.
