Sentence handed down in USP Hazelton killing

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A former inmate from United State Penitentiary Hazelton has been sentenced in the death of another inmate in December of 2023.

Stephen C. Crawford, 45, has been sentenced to 188 months in prison for voluntary manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily harm.

Crawford was convicted in a jury trial.

Court documents said Crawford used a handmade weapon to stab the inmate multiple times causing his death.

Crawford was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
