Shinnston man convicted for weapons violation, witness tampering in two day trial

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – A federal jury in Harrison County heard two days of testimony before convicting a Shinnston man of illegally possessing an assault rifle and tampering with a witness.

Charles Raymond Wable, 62, was prohibited from owning firearms due to a previous conviction and was also under supervision from the U.S. Probation Office. During a home check, officers found a loaded assault rifle under his bed. During a federal probation hearing, Wable had someone provide false testimony about the ownership of the firearm.

Sentencing has been set for August 2.

Wable faces up to 10 years in prison for the firearms charge and up to 20 years in prison for witness tampering.
