Sleeping sitter charged with neglect

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – A Clarksburg man faces charges after being caught sleeping on the job while he was supposed to be taking care of a child.

On Wednesday, deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 7-Eleven in Shinnston to investigate a report of a small child in the store alone. The child told store staff his parents were at home sleeping.

As deputies investigated, the child’s mother came to the store and told officers that Mark Reeseman, 43, of Clarksburg, was supposed to be watching the child.

Deputies traveled to a residence in Shinnston on Abraham Lincoln Drive, where Reeseman was, and learned he thought the child was in a bedroom there the entire time. Reeseman told deputies he was in the bathroom and didn’t hear the child leave through the unsecured front door.

The child told deputies he tried to wake Reeseman up before he left but could not.

Reeseman has been charged with child neglect and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
