Social media sale attempt leads to gun-related charges in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — An attempt to sell a vehicle on a social media platform resulted in multiple gunshots being fired at the BellView Boulevard Shopping Plaza.

Fairmont police were called to the shopping area on Oct. 20 around 7:15 p.m. on a report of a woman firing a gun at a dark-colored car.

Upon arrival, police found the woman matching the description, identified as Brittany Johnson, 34, of Fairmont, and learned she was trying to sell her Mercedes and agreed to meet the potential buyer there.

Johnson told police as she was speaking with the buyer when he got into the Mercedes, drove away, and fired a gun at her.

Multiple witnesses at the scene told police they saw a dark-colored car parked in the north portion of the lot near the entrance and heard a woman yelling, then multiple gunshots.

Witnesses also told officers at the scene they observed Johnson running through the parking lot and shooting at the vehicle multiple times. The police were then able to locate seven 9-mm bullet casings in the parking lot.

Johnson has been charged with wanton endangerment involving a firearm and has been released on a $50,012 bond.
