Sponsors sought for return of Wesley United Methodist Church community Thanksgiving meal

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Preparations are underway for the full return of the Wesley United Methodist Church community Thanksgiving meal. Organizer Karen Kelley-King said they will they plan to be at 100-percent capacity, barring any supply chain limitations.

“For the first time since 2019, we’re stepping out onto faith and we’re planning on serving at least 1,200 meals,” Kelley-King said.

Dine-in, delivery options will be offered and meals will be delivered to first responders on duty Thanksgiving Day.

United Bank and Chilli’s Grill & Bar in Morgantown are sponsors of the event and Kelley-King said they are looking for more. Chilli’s Grill & Bar has provided paper products, cooking ingredients, and United Bank has provided support for the last two years.

“We’re always looking for sponsors,” Kelley-King said. “And we always list the people that give to us.”

The group has placed an order for 40 turkeys and sides along with the renewed call for volunteers. Kelley-King said meal preparation will begin at least a day before the meal and Thanksgiving Day there will be need for delivery drivers, servers and support workers.

“We’re having such a stressful time with inflation and everything, so we want to make sure everybody knows if they don’t have anything we will provide it,” Kelley-King said. ” And we will trust in God that we will have enough turkeys and enough product to give people a meal.”

The meal was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, but has been a community event since 2008.
