St. Patrick’s Day parties under investigation at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU officials are using video, photographs and witness statements to identify those involved in St. Patrick’s Day parties in the campus area.

MECCA 911 began receiving reports around mid-afternoon of large crowds of people gathering in the 400 block of Spruce Street and on North High Street.

On WAJR’s Talk of the Town, vice president of strategic initiatives Rob Alsop made it clear they are going to make every effort to identify those responsible.

“There’s just unacceptable behavior on that video and we are already working to try to identify those responsible,” Alsop said,” Assuming they are students we will take appropriate action.”

The size of the crowds compounded health concerns amidst the pandemic.

“We’ll go to work on it as we have in the past to work to work to find those who didn’t act appropriately and take action,” Alsop said.

A group of students are shown demanding a local news reporter delete video she was taking of the parties at several locations along High Street. When the reporter refused some of the students tried to stop her taking the video as she explained to them she was in the right-of-way, or public property.

“I understand it’s been a long hard time with this pandemic, but that’s not who we are and how we act,” Alsop said,” We’re outraged, at what a few individuals did yesterday with that reported and the students not following social distancing.”

This is a developing story.
