Star City looks to swap Farmers Market for special one-time events

STAR CITY, W.Va. Thursday was the final time for the regular Star City Farmers Market at the Edith B. Barill Riverfront Park on Leeway Street.

Officials said the event got off to a strong start in 2020, when it was one of the few events open due to the pandemic. Since competing events have reopened in Arnettsville, Cheat Lake, Grafton Road, Morgantown, and WVU Health Sciences, interest has dropped off, and the vendors said it was no longer financially viable for them.

There are plans for special one-time events in the future. Requests have been received for events like a food truck rodeo, an Italian Festival, a car show, a craft fair, a fall festival, and a kid’s day at the park.
